Getting personal with Valentine’s Day

I know that there are a lot of people out in the world who don’t care for this day very much, but I am going to get a little personal on the blog today and tell you why I love Valentine’s Day.

OK, so I have always had a valentine. No, I have not always been in a romantic relationship on Valentine’s Day. But, I have always had an amazing man bring me chocolate first thing in the morning Valentine’s Day. My dad is the father of five daughters (Yes, I said 5.) and every year without fail he makes sure that we all have a heart shaped box of chocolates. Growing up, without fail, boyfriend or not, my dad made sure to let us know that all girls should feel special on this day.

Yeah, yeah, it’s a commercial holiday but my dad is awesome old school. This is even my mom’s and his anniversary (34 years today). As I write this on February 13th I know that in the morning my dad will most likely wake me up with a knock at my door to give me and my three little girls our boxes of chocolate. It makes no difference to him that I am married, or have been for the past eight and a half years. He will make his rounds to all his daughters and granddaughters, making sure they all know how special they are…that they are loved.

Now you understand. How could I not love Valentine’s Day when I have always had the best Valentine?

What about you? How do you feel about this holiday? Do you have any great Valentine’s Day memories to share?

Happy Valentines Day!

  1. Just so you get the depth of awesomeness that is Rebecca's father. She and I have been friends for years and if we still lived near each other her father would bring me and my girls Valentines also. He is incredibly kind and really embraces the what it means to love people. One of my favorite memories is eating Rebecca's candy when she was vegan :D Happy Valentines Day!!!

  5. Awwwww you're making me miss my dad right now. He always did stuff like that. Sent me a corsage in school on my 16th birthday. I love that line from the comic Family Circus--you're better than a father, you're a daddy. Tell your dad her rocks!
