In this sequel to the breakout hit Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side, Jessica Packwood finds being a newly married teenage vampire princess isn’t all that easy. She might be living in a Romanian castle with her husband Lucius Vladescu, but she’s also surrounded by undead subjects who aren’t ready to welcome her as queen. Then Lucius is accused of murdering a vampire Elder, leaving Jessica more alone than ever. Now she must race against time to clear Lucius’ name and save both their lives, even if it means enlisting the help of those she knows are keeping dark secrets. (Goodreads)

Review

When I saw that my library had the audio version of Jessica Rules the Dark Side I got very excited because I had been wanting to read it. I had a lot of fun with Jessica’s Guide to Dating On The Dark Side and hoped that this would be just as fun.

Jessica and Lucius are married now living in the royal Vladescu home. But not everything is wonderful for Jessica and Lucius. Jessica is still trying to figure out what it really means to be a vampire princess and not fumble so much that she makes Lucius look bad up until Lucius is accused of killing one of his uncles. In all honesty, I sort of got bored with Jessica and Lucius. I think that maybe we are supposed to wonder about who the murderer of Lucius’ uncle is, But it was very obvious for me from early on in the story. It may have been somewhat different if I had been reading instead of listening. But I went through most of Jessica Rules the Dark Side wondering how the characters could not see what was right in front of their face.

The silver lining.

The story line between the very charming Raniero and Jessica’s best friend Mindy was fun to read. I really enjoyed watching both Raniero and Mindy try to pretend they didn’t care for the other as much as they did, while still trying to help Jessica and Lucius. My one complaint about these two is that there is just not enough of them in the book. I wish Mindy and Raniero’s story line would have been the main focus of the book I really wanted more of the two of them.

Happy Reading,

It's OK, but I’m glad I didn't have to pay for it.

  1. I read the first book and I liked it but I didn't love it. Thank you for sharing your honest opinions. I had a problem connection with the couple too, so I think I might get this one from the library later down the road.

    Thanks for the great review!

  2. Hehehe! I loved the first book, it was so much fun. I had no idea this was on audio, by the way...

The truth is, though, that I thought the first book ended... Well, ended. As in, it did not need a sequel. The characters had changed enough that all the fun and spunk would be gone in a follow-up, and things were kind of neat.

Still, I've pondered about reading the sequel. Now, I think I'll just wait until I find it available in a library, or until I can borrow it from a friend. Doesn't sound like a keepers.

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Yes! It should have stopped at the first book. It would have been better if this was just Mindy and Raniero's book.

  4. I've seen the first book around but for some reason I never felt like picking it up. Considering you gave it 2 moons you gave the second book, I don't feel the need to check it out either. :P
Thanks for the honest review, Rebecca. :)
