A dark and tender post-apocalyptic love story set in the aftermath of a bloody war.
In a city where humans and Darklings are now separated by a high wall and tensions between the two races still simmer after a terrible war, sixteen-year-olds Ash Fisher, a half-blood Darkling, and Natalie Buchanan, a human and the daughter of the Emissary, meet and do the unthinkable—they fall in love. Bonded by a mysterious connection that causes Ash’s long-dormant heart to beat, Ash and Natalie first deny and then struggle to fight their forbidden feelings for each other, knowing if they’re caught, they’ll be executed—but their feelings are too strong.
When Ash and Natalie then find themselves at the center of a deadly conspiracy that threatens to pull the humans and Darklings back into war, they must make hard choices that could result in both their deaths.

ReplyDeletehttp://picturemereading.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/picture-me-reading-roundup-weekly-highlights-and-coming-soonstacking-the-shelves-6/ I linked to this post!
DeleteLOVE your Vreview, Rebecca! This book caught my attention because of the cover, then looked a bit too typical, then I heard you... You know, I think if you'd been trying to sell me a telephone guide, I'd have bought and read it!
ReplyDeleteIf I get a chance, I'll read this one! Thanks for sharing ;)
Like we talked about, I've heard mixed reviews of this but I still want to read it. I like the way you talked about it being optioned for a movie and the way you describe it because it does sound very visual.
ReplyDeletethanks so much for the giveaway! been looking forward to reading Black City!
ReplyDeleteI want to read this for the "twist" you talked about. Were you able to overlook the cheesiness after the twist happened?
