After uniting the shifters and calling in reinforcements, Chase has to face his toughest challenge yet: learning to control his emotions. But as tensions rise and his powers grow, controlling his emotions becomes the least of his problems.

Terrorized by a multi-shifter who is hell-bent on turning him, Chase questions just how far he’s willing to go to stop his father. Meanwhile, Tiki’s virtuous nature has placed him in the middle of Vincent’s past, leaving Chase to oppose a senate of vampires and defend a demon he hates.

Trying to balance his friends, his enemies, and his inner demons, Chase is left searching for answers about the Mark, his destiny, and where he can find the next soul piece. Stopping Riley is his top priority, but as more obstacles arise, he finds himself doubting all the decisions he’s made - especially regarding Rayna.

One thing is for certain: Chase has finally realized that he doesn’t know anything. The light doesn’t always quell the darkness, the monsters don’t always stay in the shadows, and the past doesn’t always stay in the past - sometimes, the demons inside are the hardest to fight.

Review

OK, if you have not read the first two books in this series, Exiled and Shift, stop right now! I will try to make this spoiler free but in case I don’t go get them and read them, then come back. Don’t worry, I will see you in like a day because you wont be able to put them down and the pace is incredible. Release starts out with a bang continuing where Shift left off. Chase and his friends are on a mission to stop Riley (Chase’s father) from gaining any more power. As stated in the description the normal gang of characters is not alone in their quest against Riley. Riley has hurt and killed so many now that the shifters, witches and hunters are joining together… for this fight at least.

The Story

You know how there are those series that come along and you end up getting so involved that until you can get your hand on the next book you have to go back and reread just to visit with that world for a while. I already know this is one of those series for me. Release is so good because it is the perfect combination of fast paced action, characters I am so in love with, world building that is so strong I was in it word for word, and problems I was desperate to help Chase solve.

The Characters

Oh, where do I begin? I love Chase! He is so young but has never really been allowed to be his age. As the protector he has so much on his shoulders, and is still trying to get his emotions in check. All the while Chase is continuing to try to learn more about himself and what his real role in all this mess is. Rayna is such a tough cookie, but more gets to her than she lets on. I love how strong Rayna is and that she will do anything to protect those she cares about. The chemistry between Chase and Rayna is…. There are no words, I want them to have an HEA so bad!

I feel like I learned so much about the supporting characters in this installment. Tiki, Willy, and Vincent really took center stage for a good portion of Release. I have never really cared for Vincent all that much, but I do feel like I understand him a lot better now. After learning some of Vincent’s story, its hard to dislike him as much as I did. Tiki is amazingly loyal, and such a steadfast character. If I where ever in trouble he would be the type of person..err demon (whichever) I would want in my corner. Willy. I have loved Willy from book 1. He is a true best friend to Chase and has come so far from the shy punching bag he once was. I have loved watching his character change and grow from one book to the next.

The Ugly Snot Cry

Yep, Release made me do the ugly snot cry. I don’t want to give anything away so I can’t even tell you why I was doing the ugly cry. When I read the final page of release I was cursing Mr. Merrick for what he had put me through. Oh, that ending… Wow! I guess that is what makes this series so great I am so involved in these characters, they have been written so real.

I need the next book!

Happy Reading,

  4. Okay, wait a minute. I've read and LOVED the first two but I haven't read Release yet. AN UGLY CRY!!?? WHAT??? I'm freaking out a bit now. Also, I kind of love Vincent so you mentioning that he has a backstory in this one makes me happy. These characters are so great, and the world-building in this series has been so great. And good gracious, I've been waiting for Chase and the fabulous butt-kicking Rayna to get themselves together forever. But an ugly cry?!

And what is this about a "next book" - I thought this was the end of the trilogy? Is there going to be more??

    1. Also, I love faeries the most. They're manipulative and mean and nasty, but usually pretty. They're mythological, right?
