Welcome to Follow Me Friday Hosted By Parajunkee.com and Alisoncanread.com
This weeks question:
Confess your blogger sins! Is there anything as a newbie blogger that you've done, that as you've gained more experience you were like -- oops?
My answer:
When I started I accepted like every review request I got. I had no idea what I was doing I was just so excited someone wanted me to read their book. I now do my best to read books that I’m pretty sure I will enjoy, and if I don’t have time to review a book I can ask the author if they want to do a promo or guest post with a giveaway.
I think I am pretty much that way right now. Although I'm not technically a newbie blogger, I am a newbie book blogger!

Sigh. That's what my problem is currently. I started my book blog in December and I think I'm going nutso in netgalley. They're going to hate me if I don't stay offline and read faster so I can review!
ReplyDeleteNew follower and from the FF, too!
Yes, I definitely did the same thing! I ended up with books in genres that I had no intention of ever reading...like Christian fiction...totally not me.

Review requests are so hard for me to turn down! I always feel bad for saying no, but then what good is it to say yes if I can't give it a proper read?

Seeing this one a lot! I actually didn't do this. A lot of the review requests I got were for books that weren't even paranormal, despite my review policy. And the ones I did get were never of any interest to me. Always felt guilty for ignoring said requests.

Haha I did that luckily I ended up with some good books in genres I normally wouldn't read (which I now love!). But I'm also very selective now because I can't review everything especially if I'm not interested in it. Great FF :)

Haha, That happened to me before! It was not a good thing.

Yeah. it is definitely exciting when authors request you review their books, even if those books aren't one you'd normally be drawn to.
ReplyDeleteIt is so easy to get drawn in and excited when they ask... and it's SO hard to say no. Great answer!

I am still guilty of taking all review requests. I have such a hard time telling people no. :) old follower stopping by
ReplyDeleteI almost did the same. I have to stop myself everytime. It's so hard!

ReplyDeleteYou should see some of the books that ended up in my mailbox because of taking too many requests lol. There are other mistakes I'm still trying to avoid, like getting caught up in gaining followers. Here's my FF if you'd like to drop by, http://paigedanielsnguyen.blogspot.com/2013/03/feature-and-follow-friday.html

I'm definitely an excited reviewer lol. I really like the alternative that you offer the authors though!

I actually like that idea. With a rare exception, I'm not looking for free books to read, I have enough books to read to last me years. I like your idea of doing an promo/guest post.

I'm a new follower and think that is sound advice- choosing books you might like instead of taking them all on. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI was the same way when I first started!! I never thought of an alternative though...that is a good idea though. Hope you have a great weekend.
