Review

Here on The Spine, we generally stick to book reviews, occasionally a movie review or book-to-movie comparison will sneak it’s way on here.  This is the first TV series we’ve reviewed.  Read on to find out why this is worthy of a review on here.

This show, y’all, starts off running and never stops.  It’s directed so good that you’re on edge the entire time you watch an episode.  I watched them on Netflix, pretty much back to back, like 6 episodes at a time.  It only ran for 1 season, and must have been a mini-series of sorts.  Watch it.  You’ll understand why.

I’m not the kind of person who “figures things out.”  I typically fall for the this-guy-is-the-obvious-bad-guy character.  Why?  I’m not creative.  Can’t think outside the box.  So, I never saw this coming.  N. E. V. E. R. And I was shocked.  One of those, “Why didn’t I see this coming?  Because I couldn’t have!” moments.  You realize that there are certain people they try to make you believe are doing things but they’re obviously NOT the bad guy.  They’re evil in their own ways, but not behind the the things going on.

I don’t normally like suspenseful movies or shows.  Harper’s Island, however, hooked me and I had to know what happened next.  People die, y’all.  There’s tons of blood, tons of gore.  LOTS of people die.  Watching this I just couldn’t figure out why such a random cross-section of people were murdered.  Why they weren’t missed!?!  Guys, get over it and just watch.  There’s a nice little wrap-up and the end.  And even though the series ends nicely, answering all your questions in the typical bad-guy-confessing-to-the-good-guy plot movement, I was still left with a creepy feeling.  Could it really be all good now?  I’m just not sure.  Ari Schlossberg did something right.  I loved this series, completely enjoyed it.

And I think it’s a safe bet to say that you will, too!

I’ve two complaints.  The first is that the writers weren’t very creative at times.  I lost count as to how many times “so sorry” was said after someone died.  The next is that it the series was too short!
