Review: South of Salem (Allegra Fairweather Mystery #2) by Janni Nell

South of Salem

Description

My mother thinks my job is crazy. I’ m a paranormal investigator; she’ s Nancy Reagan crossed with Martha Stewart. She’ s always preferred my sister, Lily, who is following in her perfect footsteps.

But this time Mom needs my special skills. She believes my stepfather is possessed. I admit he’ s not his usual dapper, charming self, but sleepwalking doesn’ t sound that weird. Until the sleepwalking spreads through the family and cousin Donna walks right out of her apartment window to her death. Then my sister goes missing and I have to find her and solve the mystery before Lily and her unborn child are harmed.

Normally I would have assistance, but my right hand, a hunky angel I’ ve nicknamed Casper, has business of his own to take care of—business that might take him out of my life forever. The stakes are too high for me to lose, but I’ m not sure I can do it alone…  (Goodreads)

Review

In South of Salem paranormal investigator Allegra Fairweather is hard at work to solve another mystery, but It’s so much harder when the clients are your family.

South of Salem was a very fast paced read, and I enjoyed the story line. But I found myself having to go back and reread paragraphs due to the way one scene would (not flow) go into the next. The only other complaint I had was Allegra herself. Allegra’s jealousy over her sister was so childish. It was mentioned so many times that it made me annoyed with Allegra, and question her character.

What I absolutely loved was the character development of the villain, Demelza. Demelza was given a rich back story, with an identical twin and unrequited love. By the end of the book you were cheering on all efforts in killing her, and the evil schemes set forth to destroy Allegra’s family.

Overall I enjoyed this book, and will read the next one.
Happy Reading,
Rebecca
