Rose Drayton lives on the Edge, between the world of the Broken (where people drive cars, shop at Wal-Mart, and magic is a fairy tale) and the Weird (where blueblood aristocrats rule, changelings roam, and the strength of your magic can change your destiny). Only Edgers like Rose can easily travel from one world to the next, but they never truly belong in either.

Rose thought if she practiced her magic, she could build a better life for herself. But things didn’t turn out how she planned, and now she works a minimum wage, off the books job in the Broken just to survive. Then Declan Camarine, a blueblood noble straight out of the deepest part of the Weird, comes into her life, determined to have her (and her power).

But when a terrible danger invades the Edge from the Weird, a flood of creatures hungry for magic, Declan and Rose must work together to destroy them—or they’ll devour the Edge and everyone in it.

Review

I have loved the Kate Daniels series for some time and have always wanted to read other work by the Ilona Andrews team but never got around to starting The Edge series until now. I am a huge lover of UF and PNR so I really enjoyed On The Edge.

The world building in On The Edge is amazing, not that I’m surprised having read the Ilona Andrews team before. The Edge is the world or parallel place in between The Weird, (The world full of magic.) and The Broken (The world of no magic AKA our world.) If you are from The Weird and find a way to cross into The Broken and stay too long you can loose all your power. The people of The Edge have some magic, and can more easily pass between worlds. But life is hard for Edger’s. They live in the small community of The Edge, but most have to travel to The Broken for work or to find some way to barter goods to survive.

The characters in On The Edge are just as intriguing as the world they live in.

Rose is an Edger that has abilities a bit more… Um, potent than others from The Edge. What make Rose so awesome is that she worked and worked to get her special abilities to the strength they are to prove a point to all those around her. Yes, she is the badass you want to be. Rose also takes responsibility for those around her. She has been caring for her younger brothers George, and Jack since her parents where out of the picture. It’s not like Rose has it easy looking after George and Jack as they each have their own special abilities. And well boys will be boys.

As you can tell if you are still with me I really enjoyed this so there has to be someone that Rose has some type of romantic connection with right??? Let me tell you about Declan. Declan is blueblood noble from the Weird. He is this hot soldier that knows he has everything figured out, he knows what he is fighting for and what he is willing to risk, that is until he comes up against Rose. Y’all even though these two end up pretty much on the same side fighting a big bad evil sparks fly between the two of them. All you people out there that don’t like your UF and PNR to mix can kiss my big toe! The relationship between these two is slow to start and nowhere near insta-love. The romance between these two is perfect and I loved it.

I want to go on about other characters but before my fingers start telling you everything that happened I will stop here so that you can enjoy the real thing for yourself.

I do want to take a moment to say that, Renée Raudman did an amazing job as narrator in this audio version. I never once felt lost and always understood what character was speaking. Having a good reader can make or break a book in audio. I felt Raudman helped bring the story to life.

If you are like me and have had On The Edge on your to read list for like ever GO READ IT. On The Edge is worth the time!

Happy Reading,
